Huawei will partner with Google on next Nexus Smartphone

Chinese Smartphone maker Huawei who has been viewed by the US as a threat to National Security and accused of spying for the Chinese government wants to raise consumer awareness of its products in the west. Huawei’s partnership with Google on a new Nexus Smartphone will improve the company’s image and give it more credibility as well as strengthening its relationship with the American tech giant. This new Nexus Smartphone will probably be a larger than normal Nexus device with a 5.7 inch Quad HD display.

In the past Google have partnered with HTC, LG, Samsung and Motorola on their Nexus smartphones. Google are eager to get their feet through China’s great Firewall and offer their services to Chinese consumers so partnering with Huawei, one of China’s largest Smartphone makers looks like a smart move, although it is unlikely that Huawei will be allowed to sell the device in China where Google services installed on the device are banned. At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) back in March, Google’s Sundar Pichai expressed the company’s strong desire to return to China.

The Huawei partnership with Google was reported by an unnamed Huawei source who works in the UK. The New Nexus Smartphone is expected to run on Android M software. Huawei have not officially confirmed the report and Google have not as yet commented on the partnership.

The source also reported that the Huawei Watch, a competitor for the Apple Watch will launch in September and that Huawei will open an online store in the UK on June 22 selling Huawei products in what will be known as a “Virtual Mall”.
